A Beach House Retreat, Playa Sombrero, Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica
Re-connect with nature in this tropical open air vacation rental.
This charming open air beach house is only steps from the ocean. Nestled in the curve of a secluded bay and surrounded by a large private garden, Casa Kumbaya offers guests a chance to escape from the modern world and re-connect with nature in a tranquil, tropical environment.
Close to Cabo Matapalo and only twenty minutes drive to local amenities in Puerto Jimenez, Casa Kumbaya is in the perfect location to explore the area and experience life at the edge of the rainforest.
Casa Kumbaya is a light and airy, open plan style home with tropical hardwood floors and walls. The front of the house is half-walled with bamboo panels and shutters, offering stunning ocean and garden views from every window.
The first floor features a front and back porch, central living/dining area, fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with outdoor shower. The upstairs bedroom includes a double bed, a single sofa/bed and a secure lockable trunk for your valuables.
Surrounded by two and a half acres of well kept gardens, Casa Kumbaya maintains an air of peace and tranquility. Exotic trees and palms line the driveway interspersed by tropical flower beds and fruit trees. Brightly coloured heliconia and hibiscus grow in the shade of shapely Malinche and Jacaranda trees.
The garden supports a wide variety of wildlife, especially birds. A large flock of Orange Chinned Parakeets nest in the giant Balsa tree next to the house and the grove of Beach Almonds fringing the bay is a favourite hang-out for Scarlet Macaws.
Tucked away, at the northen end of Playa Sombrero, this secluded beach is right on your doorstep. Most days you will have the whole bay to yourself. There are rock pools to explore at low tide and high tide is great for swimming, Take a stroll along the shoreline, turtle tracks can often be encountered while beachcombing for shells and driftwood.
Gaze out over the sparkling blue waters of the Golfo Dulce as pelicans glide by. Look out for Humpback whales. They can be seen breaching offshore from December to April and June to August.
Casa Kumbaya is located near the southern tip of the Osa peninsula in the beautiful coastal area of Cabo Matapalo. Off the beaten track with relatively low impact from tourism and development, it is an exciting tropical destination with an alluring mix of wild jungle scenery, uncrowded beaches, classic surf breaks, outstanding wildlife and a relaxed atmosphere. Conservation is the main aim for most of the inhabitants of this small beachside community. Wild and rugged with an incredible diversity of flora and fauna, it is a place where nature is still king.

Never a dull moment! our first trip to the Osa and Casa Kumbaya left us in a state of wonder. The house was perfect for us , right on the beach and also close enough to the town to pop in and get supplies. The wildlife was spectacular and we feel so lucky to have visited this special place.
